Moving home - 1MB minimum Speed garuntee

Hello folks, hope your all well.

I called plusnet today to move my service to my new address. After taking to the nice fella on the phone, he explained that the service they would be able to provide me at my new address would be... Terrible. With a minimum Speed garuntee of 1mb, and estimated speed of 2mb - 4mb.

After hearing this I decided that it wasn't worth the £30+ per month I pay so asked to cancel the service and planned to just use my mobile phone for Internet.

He then told me I would be charge £30 to cancel. Does this sound fair?

You can see why you are being charged £30 here.

Re: Moving home - 1MB minimum Speed garuntee

Hello Brownie. Thanks for the reply.

I still don't think it's right. I called to move my service. They aren't able to provide me with a service anywhere close to my current level but still expect me to pay £30pm for an internet service 45x slower?

So I either accept the terrible service, or cancel And pay the £30 fee?

Thanks again.

Think you mean "guarantee". If new location a rural area, probably a Market 1 area,

which is most expensive as no LLU(competition) in exchange, like my connection;
besides higher pricing you often have slow speeds due to distance from exchange.

Hello Gel. Yes, I did mean guarantee. Thanks for that.

Also, thank you for explaining the reason why I may be getting slow speeds at my new location.

If you know phone no. of new location, tap it into BT Wholesale speed link below to see potential of the line.

Re: Moving home - 1MB minimum Speed garuntee

I've done this already, it just confirmed how poor the line is.

If I had decided to leave and plusnet could match the service currently provided (or even come close), then I would understand. I feel forced into leaving and paying to do so.

I've bit the bullet and canceled my service, but unfortunately leaving with a bad taste in my mouth.

Thanks again for your help. Enjoy your Easter eggs.

Did you look into broadband provision before moving?

No, I didn't. To be honest it wasn't that high up the list when considering our new home.

Unfortunately a decent broadband service is becoming more of an essential utility these days.

You haven't said where you are located so have a look here first for any pointers then search on BDUK for your locality.
