It shouldn't really matter as we have a redirect on the old bank account to move payments to the new one.

Well my bank seems to think it matters.  I received a letter a month or two ago from my bank stating that your bank had rejected payment.  The strange thing is that the payment did go through ok.
From now on I will submit payment to your Barclays account until Jonathan can make his mind up!

It sounds like your payment got caught between 2 banking systems. Due to the account being closed an automatic letter is generated stating that the payment can't be made to the closed account and the payment is returned to the originating bank. However, because a redirect was on the closed account, the payment was sent to the correct account rather than being rejected back.

Another month goes by and guess what?  It's still not fixed.
