Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi,
I just want to understand few things about sync and speed.
I havent use my Internet conection hardly for 2-3 weeks, so i havent check sync speed and bandwith but when i finally did seems that my sync speed is lower than it used to be
It used to be 7150 now it shows 6500 I asked Plus.net why is that but got answer that there is nothing wrong with my connection. 6500 sync means that my speed is lower than when i was on 7150
so is that BT putting more people on exchange and it all goes down or what?
My router shows:
DownStream Connection Speed 8128 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
And I ALWAYS used to have speed  6.6 - 6.8 without problems
I tested that with mybroadbandspeed.com
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 20:55 4807 kbps (601kB/s) 383 kbps (47.9kB/s)  and so on .... If Im lucky i can get 6 late night
Then i tested speed with BT speedtester:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 119 kbps    <---
Throughput is 119 Huh How accurate are BT speedtester results?

BT speed tester IP profile shows 7150 but plus net website shows 6500, i raised ticket and Plus.net tested my line with results below

Rebooted router couple of time in different times to update profile with no luck, tried different microfilters, all is connected to master socket.
Does any one have idea why sync speed -> download speed goes down? It is stable no drop in connection its just slower than usual.
Thanks for any input

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi Goomy,
I've just changed your profile from 6500 to 7150Kbps.
Quote
DownStream Connection Speed 8128 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

That's your sync speed, which looks fine.
Do you want to try rebooting your router and running another speedtest?

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi Jameseh,
That was quick  Cheesy
I cant test it right now , disabled access to router via http so i can test i later tonight. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks!
I checked it just after your post and it was 7150.
Now i looked on the Plus.net website and it shows
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
    6500

So back to 6500 ..... 😕

I rebooted my router, and did few test. Sync as i said before back to 6500 from 7150 ...
now

Yesterday 22:21 5532 kbps (742kB/s)  380 kbps (47.5kB/s) Share
Its even worst .... I tested that on win 7 , Kubuntu , and Debian with same results ... any ideas?
I am really close to request MAC and switch to BE now...

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

What happens if you run a speed test during non "peak" times of the day?
Yesterday evening was really busy because of the Michael Jackson news, which could have impacted the result you were given.

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi Jameseh,
Off peak test last night got to 5.5 - 5.6 , 3 AM test got to 5.8. I looked in mybroadbandspeed.com history and i can see that test on 20-24 May speed was 6.5 and higher as it was in last months.
And why this sync speed went back to 6500 ? Ive seen it after you changed , havent got chance to test line at home from work  before i was able to it was back to 6500.
I havent use my bandwitch as much as i used to in last 2 weeks but i dont think that lower usage can lower sync speed.  Just trying to understand this change in sync.
Thanks for your input, really appreciate it.

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Ok.  5.5-5.8Mbps sounds about right for a 6500Kbps profile.
It does sound a bit like network/exchange congestion, especially last night.
To put it into context, we saw around 1.1Gbps iPlayer traffic last night when the news about Michael Jackson was doing the initial rounds.  thats the second highest we've ever seen, almost eclipsing Shu as the Stig on Top Gear.

Yes it is right for 6500 profile, but mine used to be 7150 and i cant really understand why on the beggining of this month (based on mybroadband speed previous tests) it went down.
I thought that it is congestion in first place, but when situation was "stable" wtih this sync even after few reboots I raised ticked with tech support.
They say no issues, and i understand that they get same results.  on the line, I havent changed any hardware.

thats why i did test around 3AM to check and it was faster but not as fast as it used to be. My point is that i dont really want to be in position "you should be happy that it works at all" , or "I would like to have that 5.8 you have",
When something was working on 6.5 and higher i like it that way.  I'm trying to understand from where this change came from and why sync is lower than usual, is that because network balancing ? BT puts more people on my exchange... really running out of ideas.
Can you tell me what happened when you changed sync to 7150 it went back to 6500, is it actual setting on exchange and that's why it went back to 6500 ? Thanks

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

The change will have been to BT seeing a perceived resync, causing the problem to be reset to 6500Kbps.
If you're syncing at 8128Kbps currently and hold onto it, your profile should be amended by the start of next week.
Understand it's not ideal but unfortunately it is completely outside of our control.

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

I am back ......
I've done checks again over last few days and have constant speed 6000 and ip profile 6500. I thought that my sync will increase to previous level (7150)
I did checks in peak and off peak hours and it seems that my sync is not going back to previous value.
I used mybroadband speed , speedtest.net , thinkbroadband.com and bt speedtester - on bt speed tester my sync rate was jumping from 2000 to 5500 (how accurate sync values on bt speedtester are) ?
Plus.net website :
Current line speed:
   6500
Quote
[-=Internal=-]
IP profile is still 6500 but WP profile has been increased to 7150. I'm going to correct this mismatch, due to the fact that it can cause a small amount of packet loss. Otherwise the line is fine, and it's simply a case of waiting for DLM to increase the IP profile to fit with the sync rate.

And i was waiting for DLM to increase the IP profile, how long this takes? It is already over 72 hrs and no luck.

Our checks aren't showing any issues with the line itself, other than the fact that your IP profile hasn't lifted back to 7150 yet, though this will be due to the fact that you've not had a stable 72 hour connection since this dropped slightly to the current 6500.
I had but Plus.net support asked me to reboot router... anyway , my router is on 24/7 so i left it running and downloaded some big files, still no luck.
Quote
You will notice that the speed shown on the portal has dropped back to 6500. This has been done due to the fact that if this is set higher than your actual BT IP profile you may experience issues with the connection, due to our system trying to send you data faster than the exchange has set your line to handle.
thats roll back of the change that you Jameseh putted for me in sync settings.
my speed test from last days of May shows 6.6 and over speeds , as I mentioned before now late night 6,0 is max i can get.  Connection is stable no problems there. Just lost 0.6 + Mb/s , so what happen in next few months ? another 0.5 ? and another and another till it gets to some silly number. .. Any ideas guys ?

thanks

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi Goomy,
Your profile is showing as 6500Kbps on both our system and that of BT.  The profile at our end was dropped to 6500Kbps in line with BT.  If we put the profile higher than the BT one is can cause your connection to suffer from packet loss.
If your connection remains as it is, without any drop in connectivity, you will receive a profile of 7150Kbps.  The only thing you can do now, is to wait.

On all bt speedtester results profile for my line is - 7150 kbps , Plus.net website indicate 6500 speeds, and I've been told that Jameseh change to 7215 had to be reversed to 6500 because it would result in packages lost. If speedtester shows profile 7150 is it accurate ? what bugs me its that it was fine to the end of May.
Reading articles on plus.net website "we just installed 150mbs more bandwith bla bla" iam thinking, ok so extra speed, great but wheres my speed gone?

Re: Lower Sync / Broadband speed , stuck profile?

Hi Goomy,
I've moved your profile back to 7150Kbps.
Can you reboot and retest and let us know if you see an improvement or a decrease in speed.
