Download speed down to 0.21 Mbps

My download speed has been really slow for several weeks now. BT Wholesale test shows only 0.21. It used to be well over 2Mbps. Router stats as follows;

Re: Download speed down to 0.21 Mbps

Hi there,

I can see we've been talking to you over ticket 159413474 regarding this yesterday and we're expecting speeds to improve over the next few days providing that the connection remains stable.

Re: Download speed down to 0.21 Mbps

Yes, Its much better now after a line reset (or whatever).

Now I am getting consistent 5.06 Mbps on the BT Wholesale performance test.

This is the fastest I have ever seen on this line!

However, I switch all the electricity off when going on holiday etc, so it would be helpful to know how to indicate an intentional switch off as opposed to a line drop (from a fault). Would using the router's disconnect function, as opposed to powering it off be better?

I'm wondering what User Req{est} Drops signifies on the report. The report shows 2 URDs out of 10 total over the last week. Probably all of these is me switching off the router, and not any problem with the line.

Regards,

Peter

@Peter123 -Yes, if you want to do an intentional switch off, disconnect using the router UI -otherwise it will be seen as an unintentional or fault-induced action.

I'll see if I can attach the instructions I was given.

Apologies for the delayed response on here

Success!

User request usually [but not always] indicates a router-related problem/if you're rebooting it.

There are a few errors on the upstream of your connection which is usually indicative of router failure

Have you tried a different router to see if that boosts the speed up?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Download speed down to 0.21 Mbps

Hi Gandalf,

I changed router prior to reporting the fault to see it that might help, as there was a problem with my other one (generally took a long time, and a few reboots to start after any power off). Think I will temporarily try the old router to try & isolate the problem.

Speed with the current router is good for this line, and I'm thinking of changing to FTTC in a few months, which will need another router anyway.

Regards,

Peter

Re: Download speed down to 0.21 Mbps

Fix

The problem was the old router. Speed fell back to 1Mbps!  Other router now syncing at 5.792Mbps and BT Wholesale test shows 4.8Mbps.

Happy with this, marking as fixed.

Peter
