Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Hi,
If it continues to do this over the next couple of days then put the Plusnet router back in with the Openreach modem and see how that goes.  If the issue still persists with the Plusnet router then it is likely to be the telephone line.
I'll see how you get on  Smiley

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Judging by the age of my firmware, I think it may be related to this

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/02/24/bt_takes_a_whole_year_to_fix_home_hub_5_glitch/

But I cannot work out how to make it update the firmware. I reset the router at approx midnight last night, and it lasted until approx 4:30pm, which is better than I managed previously.

You can't manually update the Home Hub's firmware - generally if there's a new(er) version out, it will update itself, however you may have to wait a few days.
So if you want it to update, leave it connected and just keep an eye on the version number and date.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Strange one this, seems the thread for it.
Was on fiber but moved to a new flat which did not have it so had to go back to normal broadband. Had a Home Hub 5 with the fiber as my old plusnet router ,a TG582n, was dropping out all the time. So everything finally got connected and at first i was getting 20mb and was over the moon with it but then over the next few days the connection dropped to 14 then 13 then 10 and stayed there. Got in touch with plusnet and they said they speed was showing at 23mb and they could not see a problem. Even the homehub  was showing 23mb as was BT wholesale test but speedtest was showing 10mb with a low ping  and you could not have two or more device connected else everything lagged like you would not believe. Factory reset would not fix the problem and i started to raise a fault with plusnet when they said to try another modem. So i got out the old TG582n and connected it all up and...it showed 19mb but a high ping that lags online gaming. I would rather carry on using the home hub because...the other choice is the TG5882n (lol). Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Could it still be set up for Fiber even after a factory reset?

Have you run the BTw Performance test (DON'T REBOOT, use an Ethernet connection, otherwise ignore the red preamble except make sure no other programs are using the Internet) and at the end of the first run, click the Further Diagnostics button, enter just your Phone number and Run the Further Diagnostics Test. That should give you your IP Profile. Then check your Current Line speed (Login required) which should match (with 0.1Mbps).

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Yes, done all that and it match exactly when using the homehub 5 but the speeds are still half when actually using the net but not when using the TG582n. Everything but speed test shows the correct speed but when you use the web it is slow, download anything it will download at max 1.3mb and makes everything crawl to a halt but the TG582n will down load at over 2.5mb all the time and you can stream, game at the same time with no problems. The home hub it's self shows 23mb as the speed but you only get 10mb ,if lucky,in real use.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

That's certainly a bit odd. As it's an HH5 I'd be surprised if it had gone faulty as it wouldn't be too old, but you never know. I'm not really clued up on HHs, so maybe the others might be able to suggest something or some further tests to run.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

I am definitely not clued up  but check you login is  yourusername@plusdsl.net    ( a few people have used plusnet.net but I cant remeber if that actually connected or not.
Next thing might be the connection type  for adsl2+ it is supposed to be    PPPoA  whereas if it was on fibre it may have been PPPoE
I think both actually work with non fibre but may cause errors.  Some people seem to have had better connections with E rather than A but those may have been special circumstances.    oA seems to be the recommended  - see here  http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/broadband-connection-settings.shtml

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Anyone use the BT BROADBAND HOME HUB 4R  with Plusnet ADSL? I dont have Fibre yet, so still on ADSL.
Some fantastic prices on EBAY for the Hub 4R, so tempted to replace my unreliable Technicolor TG582n.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Hi NE.
My hub has currently been up for approximately 6 days without apparent issue with the hub itself  Smiley
Still no sign of the update downloading.
My broadband speed appears to have dropped slightly:
My last samknows report stated
9.57Mbps Min 20:00, 13/06/15
10.98Mbps Max 18:00, 23/06/15
I currently have 8.34 Mbps but I'll wait for next months Samknows report before becoming concerned, if I'm really lucky, I may have fibre shortly after.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Hi GWNDY
It could just be possibly the line adjusting itself to find a 'comfortable' speed.
See how the report says and maybe PN will have to do something to get it back up again.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

sorry it toke so long to get back but it has been a bad week, anyway. Still not fixed the problem and the old TG582n has started to play up again. several resets on the home hub 5 and am Pretty sure it is borked. on reset it gives you about 4 seconds to enter your username/password as the page constantly resets. All the information shows it is getting the correct speeds but this does not carry over to real word use.
on connection i get :
