The error I get is as follows:
"Sorry!
You're not allowed to access this content."
I would be very grateful if someone could explain what I need to do to rectify this error (other than buying a new router).
I have the Firewall of the router set to 'off' and also in the PlusNet member centre I have the Firewall set to 'off', so nothing should be blocking the router from forwarding those two ports. This seems to be router specific to those two ports, as I have a number of other ports forwarding successfully, and I was previously able to forward these ports when I was with Sky using their modem.
I have tried PlusNet Support (Chat) but they are refusing to support me at all as this is an "advanced feature" of the modem. They should have made it clear to us before we signed up that they would not provide support for their own equipment and I have a separate complaint in with them about that aspect.

Quote from: DomS Have you specifically gone in to the Game and Application sharing (or whatever it is called these days) and assigned the appropriate port or application to your device ?

Hi DomS, thanks for your reply. Yep I've got a number of port forwards setup in the Game & Application Sharing type page (just called Port Forwarding on this particular router), list below:
Game / Application Device
Data Replicator DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
Network Backup DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
Synology Assistant DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
Audio Station DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
Video Station DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
DS Media Server DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
NFS DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
iTunes Server DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
DSM DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
DS Cloud DISKSTATION (00:11:32:3c:1f:bd)
These cover a range of ports, but the router won't let me define a Game/App for ports 80 and 443.

Quote from: Bob I suspect there's a preconfigured application that's already using those ports. Look for something like 'web server' in the preconfigured list of apps and try forwarding that to the NAS.
Ah yes, thanks!
I just tried "Secure Web Server (HTTPS)" and "Web Server (HTTP)" and pointed these to my DiskStation. First one is port 443 and second one is port 80. So looks like I was trying to create a port rule that already existed. Would be nice if the modem could make that clear rather than giving the ambiguous error message it does give.
Anyway, thanks for helping me. I'll try and access my NAS externally now.

alt1 -> yourdevice:80
alt2 -> yourdevice:443
You should then be able to access the services using
http://username.plus.com:alt1
and
https://username.plus.com:alt2
I've used this to access multiple web services within my local network.

Quote from: DomS Double check what Bob has written a couple of posts up - it may be there are already defined applications for those ports (80 and 443) and it won't let you duplicate them so you'd need to use the pre-defined ones.
Yep indeed that was the issue - the error message given by the router didn't make this clear - but yes they were already defined in the end so have pointed them to my NAS.
Thanks all - wasn't expecting responses so quickly!

As Townman said above - consider "non standard" ports as an alternative anyway. Any potential hackers out there quite often target standard ports so be moving them around i.e. your.ip.address:12388 -> your.internal.device:80 will make things slightly more secure from the script kiddies out there.

Is there a firewall within your network (on the NAS) which is blocking access to port 443?
Can you access port 443 on the NAS from within your network?

Quote from: Townman Is there a listener running on port 443 of your NAS? - what is a listener? Not sure how I would check this
Is there a firewall within your network (on the NAS) which is blocking access to port 443? Both the PlusNet Firewall in member centre and the Router firewall are set to "off". The firewall in the NAS is set to allow all relevant ports, including 80 and 443.
Can you access port 443 on the NAS from within your network? Sorry - again I do not know how I would check if I can access port 443 on the NAS from within my network. IS this something I can type into Internet Explorer?

Having forwarded the port from the router to your NAS, the NAS must have the port "open" (have a "listener" connected to it) for the port to appear open to the outside world.
So the first test is can you access the NAS using https from within your local network?
If you do not know how to do this and can administer everything you need on http using port 80, then you most likely do not have a problem which you need to fix.
