DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

I have had a samsung tv for two years and it has functioned properly on the internet.
This was until today, I selected I-Player and told my the connection had interference. I checked it out and it told me there was a connection to the router but not to the internet.
All other devices such as telephones, iPad and pcs are working fine.. But not the tv. I tried 8.8.8.8 google dns and the tv connect straight away..
So the question is why will my tv not connect when the dns setting is auto, it has been in this setting for two years...

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

Same problem.... Been away all weekend and logged on today and nothing. Google DNS and others are fine. DHCP issued DNS (forwards to: 212.159.6.9 & 212.159.6.10) from the router and it fails. As an aside my internet speed is very slow but will test again using google DNS and post back although I can connect from all other devices.

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

I run all my devices with Google DNS and OpenDNS as the primary and secondary name servers anyway - I have very few (if any) issues with DNS now.

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

As you can see in the screenshot below, plusnet had about an18% failure rate of their dns service earlier, this would explain the problem with your tv imo.

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

If you put them in the router, all devices will be assigned that IP for the DNS server.
If you put it in the smart device, only that device will use the IP for the DNS server.

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

Same problem earlier today with Samsung TV - some apps working (itv player) some not (iplayer).  All other computers working OK.
Changed to use google DNS and all OK
Maybe some apps are very sensitive to DNS issues?

TV's probably don't have a dns cache, also CDN servers tend to have a short ttl time making them more sensitive to flakey name servers.
The following link is a script to change the TG582n routers DNS settings to opendns.
http://npr.me.uk/dns-script.zip
The script can easily be modified to google dns.
Suitable for R8 and R10 firmware.

@ SuperFlyWiFi
I would get your graph looked at. The packet loss is not right and not normal - it will affect pretty much anything you do.

I couldn't be 100% sure, but it could be linked to http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1401182032.htm

Re: DNS and Samsung smart 3D TV problem

Chris,
What is the current status of that issue please?  Non-responsiveness of PN DNS servers is a reoccurring issue as I have noted elsewhere and offered help on profiling when I see it.
