Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

Instead of leaving Time Server 1 set as ntp.plus.net, try specifying it as 212.159.13.49 or 212.159.13.50 or 212.159.6.9 or 212.159.6.10 and use any of the others as a Time Server 2 and so on. I have 1 & 2 specified.

I guess you've tried it (and lost the 8.4.4.i ?)?

I'm a terrible person and always keen to fiddle.

Ah, really the link to the W7 tool should be there as well go to here for that.
Edit: If you read the article on How to use the tool, the first download details give the links for the W7 tool, which is where I got it from for you. The article applies to the TG582n as well as the 585s.

In theory, yes. It will update from a tftp server http://wiki.aa.org.uk/index.php/TG582N#Firmware_Upgrade_via_your_TFTP_server

@apjashley1
Is the USB port still supported when you switch to ADSL mode?

Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

Random thoughts on firmware 10.2.5.2.DEMO
1) The browser no longer saves the login username Sad
Major issue for me, I hate having to type these thing's.
2) No longer able to change the username, password and privilege via telnet.
I usually configure a easy to type username / password for telnet use, and one with root privilege just so that I'm not locked out of anything -- bit of a habit from using the O2 router with limited privileges, don't think it matters with the PN one.
3) Game and Application Sharing now has "Use Extended Security"   ticked.
Thought this was always disabled in previous FW.
4) There's a new connection interface
"New Broadband Connection"  == "Multicast"
Hope this means we'll get BT TV in the near future.
5) The GUI has setting to configure as ADSL modem router or as a PPPoE cable router. It's very slow to configure though.
6) Telnet has new welcome screen
7) Port 51005 is OPEN! (as per Shields Up test)
This was tested as closed on previous FW.
To change this port to stealth disable CWMP-S
http://npr.me.uk/telnet.html#cwmp
Note: this may disable PN's auto config of your internet username and password.
Cool Yes, the usb port does work in ADSL configuration. Suspect it will still be only FAT format though. Sad
9) Can't disable the web intercept page in the GUI.  Now found Smiley
I prefer to disable this as it's something which has caused problems with previous models / FW.
10) WPS is enabled by default.
Is this wise considering recent security concerns about WPS.

Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

Thanks for that npr, excellent info on what to expect.
   1) Is that definitely an issue with all Browsers? Yes that would annoy me intensely.
   2) A real pain, but can you change privilege by Telnet if it's initially set up via the GUI? Or is this perhaps a case of the Command (structure) has changed?
   3) OK I presume
   4) It might not be BT TV, it could be Plusnet TV  Grin whatever it turns out to be!
   5) Noted
   6) is it Wow or yuk?
   7) That's naughty
8.) USB FAT32 support better than none!

Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

Hi,
Thanks all for taking a look, feedback looks really good and you've got a few things I've missed ;), I'd not spotted that there were any problems with changing usernames or passwords or default usernames for logging in. We've changed the login screen so that the username admin is populated by default, does this become a problem when you use a different username to log in?
I'll go through all the feedback in more detail next week. Thanks.
The NTFS thing has come up a few times in the past, I'm fairly confident in the reason we've given in the past about licensing restrictions but I'll check it out in a bit more detail to be sure. I'd like to be able to offer it on the routers, I agree that it'd be a good feature to have, I'll see what I can do.
A quick explanation on port 51005, it is an HTTP server that is needed for the TR-069 Connection Request process. When an HTTP GET is sent to this port, the router replies with an HTTP 200 empty response. The router then calls home to the TR-069 server to see if there are any tasks for it (password updated, software updates etc.) (there never are unless it's the first time you plug in your router or you do a factory reset). You can disable this if you like using NPRs command above, it will prevent us from 'calling your router in' on demand. This port will have been open like this in all versions of Plusnet TG582n firmware (and 585v8 and 585v7!), we've been using TR-069 for a long time now.
You can read about this in the TR-069 spec in section 3.2.2 here: http://www.broadband-forum.org/technical/download/TR-069_Amendment-4.pdf But this is a little off topic for this thread!

Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

@ Anotherone,
1) Only tried with Firefox but expect it to be the same with others.
2) Haven't made a determined effort to change this yet, but rather suspect "admin" will not have sufficient privileges for remote access.
Error message I get when trying to change this with the script method ( http://npr.me.uk/telnet.html#root ) "[mlp] Current user isn't allowed to add another user with specified role."
6)

Re: New TG582n FTTC firmware - 10.2.5.2 - For testing

Thanks for replying Matt and noting the comments.
As far as login goes, yes it would be a problem if on deleting the admin username my browser wouldn't allow me to us a pre-saved username and password (I haven't tried it yet, I assume npr has). I prefer to leave the admin login and password unchanged and add additional users (with different priveleges) if required..Apart from which I might already be logged in on telnet with the admin username with stats logging software or whatever etc.
And as I was about to post there is also npr's additional comment on this.
Thanks, for the reply npr.

Yes I suspect there's a few other attributes missing in the PN model.
We never saw all the complaints, that we see here about the wireless, in the O2 forum -- wonder why.
