Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Hi there,
just read through the thread and a couple of things come to mind based on the info supplied here to date.
First, your line ought to be capable of around 4.5M sync speed with a profile of 4M assuming that any causes of excessive noise and line drops can be eliminated.
2nd, It's not clear from what you've said if you have an NTE5a Master Line Box ( the one with the removable front plate - picture attached) or an old style socket.
You need to be plugged into the test socket to eliminate your internal wiring, please check that all internal sockets are dead when the front plate is removed, also what is the logo on the front plate if it's an NTE5a, ie does it say BT Openreach, or BT with the Piper symbol.
Whilst fault finding you must remain plugged into the test socket (via a filter) and other than the modem/router nothing else should be connected other than a corded phone via that filter.
What's you sync speed this morning? It's always useful to post the stats (ie similar to ScreenShot008.jpg) as per your OP.
Rgds.

If your IP Profile still says much higher you need to ring in and specifically tell them the two speeds. If they start giving you rubbish about needing to open a speed fault through faults.plus.net tell them you don't because your IP Profile is correct and that they just need to correct your current line speed. If they insist ask to speak to someone else.

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Hi guys thanks for your comments Smiley
@Another one - the box looks identical to your picture and I've been plugged into the test socket behind the faceplate since Tuesday. I'll check symbol later when i get home from work. Sync speed this morning was 4500kbps
@jelv - this is almost the same situation I was struggling with over in my flat which is 500 yard east of this property and equidistant to the exchange. I was lead to believe you can force a profile on and when we moved to ADSL max I lost a 1meg profile on the line at the flat and it took me forever to sort with plusnet. In the end we seemed to settle on a profile that pumped out a meg.
I'm assuming something as you say similar is happening here lines capable of 2meg but the profiles trying to achieve the impossible 7meg ?

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

If your IP Profile is 3500 your current line speed should say 3500 and when the network isn't busy you will get speeds around 3000. If you speak to a competent agent it will take two or three minutes to fix (you might need to disconnect/reconnect to pick up the corrected speed).

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

That's disconnect/reconnect the ppp session NOT the ADSL line sync  Wink but in my experience you shouldn't need to do it.

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Right then rang up got the profile adjusted and we are at the following..
log results though for the last 30 mins indicate the following - Only thing I've done to kit is put master socket faceplate back on ? surely wouldn't come into play would it ?
Sun, 2009-11-08 17:46:33 - Router start up
Sun, 2009-11-08 18:13:38 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.2

Sun, 2009-11-08 19:00:17 - LCP down.
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:00:23 - Initialize LCP.
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:00:23 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:00:24 - Loss of synchronization :1
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:00:27 - CHAP authentication success
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:16:24 - Loss of synchronization :2
Sun, 2009-11-08 19:30:24 - Loss of synchronization :3

Although things are close I think the chap didn't quite follow when i said the line speed is showing a possible 2.5mbps and has got me on a 3.5mbps profile ?Huh

Wow, thanks for that, was getting a bit miffed that my ip was put up to 4mb and my speeds were still low, i disconnected and connected in my router settings and hey presto speed back up ! Cheers  Smiley

Re:Close to resolution i think but need advice

Hi Lenagh,
I've just had a quick look at your ticket and I can see that your profile was lifted to 3500Kbps.  Have you noticed an improvement in performance?

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Hi James, many thanks for having a dip into my ticket for me.
Thus far the difference has been light and day.
I thought I had some external wiring issues initially but the day after I moved my router onto the test socket the extension my phone was plugged into (and previously the router) died completely. #
So I figured the real issue was just dodgy internal wiring on that extension (We've just moved into the property and they left it wanting the previous owners grrrr). After those initial losses of sync last night which I'm putting down to me moving things around everything has been fine and I've been getting a good 3MB all night without a disconnect.
For someone who has only known 1MB at best in residential I feel like I'm the owner of a new sports car Smiley
So fingers crossed we can close the ticket in the next 12-24 hours !
Could I ask one small favour and that is this - Is it possible to get the interleaving taken off ?

Yep, i'll go place the order to remove interleaving now. It should complete in the morning.

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Chris many thanks,
I've noted unfortunatley that tonight theres been a lot of loss of sync
Mon, 2009-11-09 18:43:52 - Loss of synchronization :4
Mon, 2009-11-09 18:54:23 - Loss of synchronization :5
Mon, 2009-11-09 20:30:54 - Loss of synchronization :6
Mon, 2009-11-09 20:38:55 - Loss of synchronization :7
Mon, 2009-11-09 20:39:25 - Loss of synchronization :8
I don't know if interleaving is off as of that time. If its not then I suspect we might still have a profile vs line speed issue ?

Re: Close to resolution i think but need advice

Oh dear, you' re goiing to need to find out what's causing that if you want to keep the higher sync speeds. Repetitive disconnects will eventually push up your Target SNRM, As I mentioned in an earlier post, seeing the ADSL line stats (as per your OP) for immediately after those disconnects would have been useful.
Do you have any extension sockets? Haven't got anything like a sky box plugged in which is not connected via a filter by any chance?
