Wireless router confusion!!

HELP! I'm currently on broadband with a binatone bb modem. I've just ordered a shiny new wireless laptop to replace my only PC.

I asked in my local computer shop about what router I need to buy. he recommended as Linksys WRT54G.

Do I use this piece of kit with my existing modem or instead of it?

Also, a couple of review I read on the Linksys router said it "does not support the common UK PPPoA encapsulation necessary to make a connection to most common broadband configurations".

If I have to use the router with my modem, are they compatible.

Try to imagine how confused I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Abbo

Your Binatone broadband modem... do you know how this connects to your PC?

If it connects via USB, you would need to get an ADSL Ethernet Modem.

If it connects by Ethernet, all you need to do is connect the modem to your Linksys box, and configure it, and it should work.

What it means by not supporting PPPoA is that it does not have an inbuilt ADSL modem.

I understand it is confusing!

My modem does indeed connect by USB.

Does that mean the Linksys is any good or not?

Well, you'd need to get an Ethernet Modem which connects to an ADSL line, and can connect to another router, or get an ADSL modem/router integrated.
