Wireless connection (or not) with Belkin adaptor

As I'm host to a visitor from overseas who wants to use the net on her wireless-enabled laptop while I'm busy, I've just moved to an Option 3 with a BT Voyager 2110 router. Despite (I thought) carefully following the installation instructions and aiming for a wireless setup, I've ended up with a wired ethernet connection and a Belkin adaptor which I have been able to 1.Install, 2.Connect, but not
3.Configure.

Any thoughts? I'm loathe to disconnect the ethernet cable as I don't want to lose a net connection (even briefly) as I have work to do.

Thanks
