USB wireless adapter or PCI Card

I will be setting up a new computer/ADSL system for a friend. The basic requirement is for a wireless router and a single computer (no networking required but the BT point is a long way from the computer location) . It appears that the Netgear DG834G is highly recommended and has good signal strength. I can get this with a "free" included USB wireless adapter.
Here is where I am not sure. I have never used USB adapters as I prefer a PCI card. Are there any good reasons why a USB adapter is better or worse than an integrated PCI card other than it is one more thing to hang around the back of the PC.

The USB adaptor is better in the sense that you can move it to a different PC without too much bother, and if the signal is poor, you can position the adapter or lengthen the lead to get the best signal.

Thanks Paul, that is one thing I didn't consider. This would allow the PC to be tucked under the desk and the adapter at a point where a better signal is found if needed.
