D-Link Wireless router set up problem

Hello
Can you help...have been trying for ages now to set up my home wireless router. Router and laptop work fine when blue usb cable is connected. Once I have disconnected the hard wire I cannot get the router and laptop talking to each other. When I go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections I get the following message...
'if you want windows to configure this wireless connection, start wireless zero configuration, see article 871122 in Microsoft knowledge base .....
does it really take so much time and puzzling out to configure a home router.
D-Link helpdesk have passed me to hewlett packet help-desk....please help...best regards, harley123

When you connect via wireless you can use a utility that came with the wireless card but if its built in and there is no other tools you have to use windows.
Its very simple goto the control panel then admin tools and services and find the wireless zero configuration and start the service.

You may want to try downloading netstumbler its free from
http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ this lets you see the available stations.

Dont start windows with the usb connection plugged in as its sometime a bit slow dropping that connection and finding another one.
