"You have mail"

Never seen this on the CGI server before.

When I log in its telling me that I have mail.

One problem...how do I view it? On my Linux system which I play around with to teach myself stuff, its in /var/spool/mail/ however, we don't have access to that directory on the CGI server... so where is my mail?

Cheers,

Andrew.

"You have mail"

Hi,

The CGI server has sendmail installed so you can use it for email. Login via SSH to the CGI server and you can use pine ti see the mail. I've just sent you a test message.

"You have mail"

I think this was more about access Mail that things like Cron has generated... in which case you can type "mail" to see whats waiting, but I'm not sure about much after that Sad

Your terminal, of type "ansi", is lacking functions needed to run pine.

"You have mail"

Could always try "mutt" which seems to be installed (I'm just generating myself some email ATM)

"You have mail"

Pine worked fine for me by using Putty via SSH.

Have to agree with Dave, Pine and Mutt both load ok here.

"You have mail"

Me too!

I've got the "you have new mail" message and looked at it with the mail program. There's an error generated by my cron job - it still seems ot work regardless, so I've left it running.

The question is: my "mailbox" is getting bigger and bigger. Am I supposed to do anything with it?

My other question is: mail? I thought CGI didn't receive mail, or is this just self-contained mail?

"You have mail"

This mail is self-contained. It is generated by the system when the cron-job spit output. Rather than discard the output, it e-mails it to you, so you can read.

I think the cron tutorial sugests how to stop getting these e-mails.

You're quite right:
MAILTO=""

is what it says. And it seems to work!

And I printed off loads of those tutorials and read them in bed last week too!
Still, I know how to password protect a directory now. Wink
