End of Day: 28th March

End of Day: 28th March

End of Day: 28th March

Mega-busy today I think from all areas of the business.  I think we can safely say this, since I've had to charge around reminding everyone that they needed to do an end of day for us.   Brad in CSC, he never lets us down: From the land of CSC, here is our EOD. Another busy (is that word still banned?) (no Sireee, not while I'm the Editor - busy Ed) day here, energy is high and I myself am pleased that the weather seems a bit better. So what have the customers called about?

  1. Router Setup - Customers needing help on configuring their hardware.
  2. Fault Updates - We contact customers but they may not be in, so a message is left. Customers then ring us back.
  3. New Faults - Ranging from authentication issues to slow speed enquiries.
  4. Email Config - Setting up new mailboxes or new email clients (such as Windows Mail on a new PC).
  5. Billing - Customers calling to pay outstanding bills or to enquire about prices.

Chris from Marketing: I've continued penning the newsletter today as well as working on finding a venue for a LAN party later in the summer. We also had a quick workshop to discuss new ways of promoting BBYW Pro to the masses. It's been a bit manic upstairs as the budget is finalised for the new financial year, and we've been working with Sheffield Wednesday to make sure our logo looks splendiferous on their new kit. Have a good one folks.   James in Comms: Today I've been breaking my back by reading thousands and thousands of millions of forum posts in quadrillions of different forums. I've also been looking into some Madasafish referral issues as well as sitting with the Comms Team. Chris has been promoting physical violence by getting my line manager to crack me round the head. He's also been doing some Change Controls and forum work. Bob's been busying himself with some Manage My Mail content which we should see shortly, whilst Mand has been in a bunch of meetings along with her usual Development Work. I'm off to go and put some ice on my battered head. Apparently beer works well as a painkiller. Hurrah for Beer!   Mike in Development has this update: Today has been mad as usual in Dev. Brightview Phase2 stuff is tantalisingly close to its integration stage, where the huge amount of stuff developed for it will all be stitched together. I've been reviewing some of the code for phase2 as part of standard development process and I have to say it's looking pretty good. I can't say what else I've been working on... well I could but then we'd have to dispatch some ninjas to wipe all of your memories about ever reading this post.   And with a late entry, here's Jason from Networks: In Network Operations, work has been going on our Autoturn servers (they're the servers used to deliver email to customers who have chosen to use SMTP mail delivery - Ed) to try and reduce the amount of spam that's seen on this platform. Richard has also been showing some of his colleagues the power of TCP dump! Lots of tickets have also been worked on with a good lot closed off. In Network Development the DBA's have been working on a lot of reporting due to it being our financial year end. Work has also been continuing on our backup platform, which as everyone knows is a very important part of our BCP/DR strategy. Lots of work been done on the Cryptocard and Manage My Mail projects with substantial milestones reached. Myself? Well along with all the day to day tasks I have been putting together an audit schedule that will detail all the regular security audits we plan to carry out over the year. Well here's looking forward to a good weekend and a "full" week of work next week.   Have a good weekend everyone.. I think Jason's right,  it will  be even busier next week. PJ
