End of Day: 12th June

End of Day: 12th June

End of Day: 12th June

Good evening all! We're in the final stages of a massive project here in the Development department... so it's all hands on deck to see us through to the end of delivering the Brightview project. Here's Rys with a summary from Dev:

The Brightview project is coming to an end, and it's gratifying to see my dev cohorts with the end in sight. It can't come soon enough so we can take a break, re-group and get back to building our departmental roadmap. We're all a bit tired at this point!

My personal project is charging ahead, too, so myself and my dev lead will be busy with that until September or so. Quite a big one, too, which has both up and downsides! We'll get there though, the schedule looks do-able. Back to my code...

Thanks Rys. Now over to Bob in Comms:

It's been a bit sparse on the Comms desk today, Mand's been working from home, Matt's been downstairs offering our Quality Assurance team a helping hand, and James left about midday to enjoy a bit of time off for the rest of the week.

That's left me and Chris. I've been concentrating on dealing with newly raised problems for the best part of the day. Chris hasn't done much really because he managed to lock his laptop to his desk and couldn't unlock it. I'm not sure what's more concerning: the fact that he managed to do this in the first place, or the fact that it did not take long to free said laptop from its shackles!

Anyway, I'm not to talk about the weather apparently as there's claims of it being jinxed by previous EODs. Neither am I going to mention tea (oops!) as none has been made today. Instead I'm going to post a completely random (but very clever) video for your amusement - Link

In fact I might suggest making the inclusion of random stuff in the Comms EOD a more frequent occurrence Wink [Ed: it's brill! Have a look!]

Next up... thanks to Colin for an update from the Web Dev guys:

Many of the Web Development team have been working on helping the Development team squash their bugs... I think we're just about out of Bug Killer though. Meanwhile, the rest of the department have been keeping things ticking over while progressing their current work stack and working on the new developments, support pages and problem fixes.

Thank you Colin. Here's Kevin in CSC with the Top 5:

Summary of the day: a mixture of calls in length and variety, similar to the weather...... 1) Router set-ups. Seem to be a lot of D-Links not able to login after resetting admin details (as prompted) and also locking up and asking for a firmware upgrade. Usually a factory reset resolves these two issues. 2) Username/password confirmations. Still people missing realm for example the "@pludsl.net" 3) Email set-up. Customers using wrong addresses and calling us rather than checking setup guides and or adding extra mailboxes. 4) Fault updates. Customers still complaining they are not getting fault updates in a timely manner. 5) Customers also calling in with new speed enquirers, some asking if there line can take more in anyway, some reporting it as it has fallen in performance usually due to an unknown intermittent connections.

Finally, Mike in Networks fills us in with a quick but important update:

A busy day in networks with some of our team being in London moving some servers between sites and others working problems back at base in Sheffield. Short and sweet!

Just a final note to say that if you see any strange activity on the Supertram in Sheffield this Saturday, that's because PlusNet are taking part in the Master Cutler's Challenge and are doing a Tram-a-thon to help raise money for St Luke's Hospice. So, if you spot us, say hello - and donate a pound or two - it's all for a very good cause Link That's all for this evening - have a good one! Ali
