worm virus Windows Vista

My Laptop has picked up the worm virus (even with AVG running) and I'm not sure how to run a system check/ restore as it boots straight into the windows explorer screen and I can't see the start button anywhere.
Any ideas how to do a recovery?

Windows Explorer > Local Disc C:\ > Users > Default > App Data > Roaming >  Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Control Panel
May help you to sort it out !  (Vista Home Premium)

Re: worm virus Windows Vista

Try pressing F8 during boot - this starts in safe mode and just may get round the virus if there is one

Remove the hard drive, mount it as a secondary hard drive in another computer (easy if it is a SATA drive) and scan it with your virus scanner.  If that does not work, try one of the more specialised malware removal tools.
