Re: wireless and wired at same time

Yes - I do it often with the same router.
You have four ethernet ports so could have 4 computers wired and more on the wifi

Re: wireless and wired at same time

Just remember that your internet connection is shared between them, so if one device is doing a big download it will slow down internet acces for the others.

Re: wireless and wired at same time

Hello
I found the above comments interesting.
Ive just recently aquired from PlusNet one of their 4-port Thomson routers.
We have 2 PCs and we are using 2 ethernet cables (one to each PC)
My question is this :
Once the ethernet cables are plugged in -  does it not stop the `wireless` connection ?
I dont want any wireless cause of the adverse publicity Ive read about.
So I was hoping that by using the ethernet cables that it would cut off the wireless danger.
PLUS, its also important that our router doesnt put out any wireless signals because both
PCs are close to a window, and Ive read never put a wireless route near an outside wall in
case someone steals the connection.      Unfortunately we cant move the PCs because of
the layout of the room.
Any advice would be appreciated  (and thanks)

Re: wireless and wired at same time

You can turn the wireless off on the Thomson routers via the router interface.

That's what wireless security prevents.
WEP stops "casual" access, WPA stops all but the most determined and well-equipped. (roughly)

Hi
Thanks.    But where do I find the router interface ?    I havent got a clue when it comes to wireless - never used it - and
dont really want to either.
I went to stay with a family member last summer and they had their wireless router near the TV, and their sofa obviously
was in front of the TV, and everytime I sat there my legs started tingling.  I believe some ppl can be quite sensitive to
wireless connections  -  and I do know there was some bad publicity about school kids & teachers all complaining of headaches
because of having it in the classroom.
Anyway.....  perhaps you might please be kind enough to point me to that router interface lol.    (and thanks)

Re: wireless and wired at same time

Would the info below  -  from Yahoo Answers  -  be the info I need :

Go to start/run and type cmd and enter. Then type ipconfig and enter. The default gateway (router) address is the last entry.

IF SO......      then what do I need to type in for  USER NAME and PASSWORD  ?
Is that my PlusNet  User name and Password  ?        Or do I need to do a NEW one ?

Handy thing that Yahoo answers  lol.

Do you have the same issue with cordless telephones making your legs tingle? (They use the same wireless wavelengths)
Presumably a cordless doorbell would also make your legs tingle?
I agree that it is pretty worrying that signals in the 2.4Ghz spectrum make your legs tingle - have you considered wearing foil trousers?
It might also be worth putting foil on the walls to block any signals from neighbours Routers/Cordless Phones/AV Senders/Gaming Consoles/Computers/iPods/Mobile Phones/Electricity Smart Meters/Wireless Televisions/Intruder Alarms/Garage Door Controls etc
I recommend Morrisons Catering Foil - (it's also large enough to fashion serviceable headgear from)

Re: wireless and wired at same time

The whole background of TV and radio signals is much much bigger than the tiny signals from your wireless devices.
Your "beliefs" and others with similar thoughts re sensitivity to these signals are just NOT supported by science or logic.

Hi Pierre,
Not for me it doesnt.
I am getting this message box :
The server 192.168.1.254 at Thomson Gateway requires a username and password.
So I`m getting the SAME message no matter which method I use.
When I connected the Thomson router last Monday (my first day with PlusNet)  I didnt have to register
anything on the router - I just connected everything, and hey bingo the internet was there.
Any further advice would please be appreciated.  (thanks)

Is the logon on a label underneath?
It's often Administrator (capital A) and no password (or just password or admin).
Or do PN set something else these days?
Edit: Pierre_pierre's post tells you in detail.  Wink
