I tried to "erase" the contents of the Linux hdd,.. through "Eraser 5.6" via the Windows hdd (as it now showss the drive ( F: ) and the contents on the "computer" .. however.. the erasing reports "failed" against all the files and also...........
"The media is write protected"...
don`t know how that works ( or not ) as I never made the hdd write protected..... ( wouldn`t know how to.... ! )
EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT
Just put a Mint17 hdd in the laptop... and the "offending" linux hdd in the caddy... ( shows on the "computer" ) however cannot "open" it to reveal the contents... as Mint 17 says it is unable to mount the drive.... right clicking on it again... then "properties"... then "permissions"./// i t states
"The permissions of Hitachi xxxxxxxx could not be determined"...

Is the disk formatted in the GPT or MBR style?

Menu > Preferences > Disks ( Manage Disks & Media ) >
Offending drive ( Hitachi ) shows as 250 gb with fee space of 250 gb ... clicked on the + sign... and it gives the option to erase the contents.. and also to change it to NTFS .. so clicked on Erase ( don`t overwrite) (quicker)... and within seconds, it shows the rive as
Quote
Filesystem
Partition 1
250GB NTFS
Now rebooted with my windows hdd in the laptop.... the offending Hitachi hdd now shows "this folder is empty".. with 232GB space...
control panel > Admisinstrative tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management shows
(F:)
232.89 GB NTFS
Healthy (Primary Partition).
So ,... hopefully,.. all is now done ! ! ! ...

Weird, I've been using EaseUS for a few years and it's always been free to use, I shall check that link, see what's what...
Did you download the Free version or one of the paid versions? If the latter I think they do indeed put those into trial mode so you can't actually use them, which is kind of annoying to say the least...
Bit barn door I know, but it's got me wondering now...

I would have said "Menu > settings > disks" for Mint/xfce or "Menu > System > YAST > Partitioner" for openSUSE/KDE, as that's what I use
