Will have to check my work machine Monday since I wasn't in yesterday and the critical update that's causing the problem is noted as installing on 14/8/14 on my ultrabook so the second reboot needed to exhibit the problem won't be till Monday..

http://myonlinesecurity.co.uk/problems-windows-updates-august-2014-kb2982791-kb2970228-kb2975719-kb2...
Reason for Revision: V2.0 (August 15, 2014): Bulletin revised to remove Download Center links for Microsoft security update 2982791.
Microsoft recommends that customers uninstall this update. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791 See the Update FAQ for details

Microsoft is recommending that EVERYBODY do this regardless of whether you have a current problem or not. There is a strong possibility that ANYBODY could experience the problem and be unable to boot windows at any time with these updates installed, or have display issues. With the increased use on websites of dynamic fonts that are loaded as and when needed to display on a website, that do not use the default installed fonts, the problems can affect anybody and cause an IE crash on almost any site
Hmm... do I, don't I?

it seems to me... that "some" ( a lot of ) people. with W8.1 get this KB update, downloaded and installed, automatically,..... ( as Microsoft would like us all to do )... then at some time in the very near future, after doing this install, the machine won`t boot up.......
OK... got that so far...
Now... Microsoft have said, the best way to deal with this, is to uninstall the offending KB` updates..............
Erm... if it won`t boot up............. how do you do that ?

What seems an unknown at present is whether people with perfectly working systems need to do this too. My computer installed several updates on 14/8/14, several updates on 15/8/14, and several updates on 16/8/14. The problematic ones were on 14/8/14. Should I be worried?
Do people still on W8 get updates at all? Is that wise?
