windows 10 - multi-dimensional storage

I have just installed a generic Win7 on my laptop and converted it to Win 10. I was unable to convert the manufacturer installed Win7 MBV, laptop listed as "not supported", as too many modules failed. Looking at the properties of C: shows 23GB used out of 49.5GB, but settings>system>storage shows 63GB used out of 89.5GB. Anyone know what's going on?

As an aside, the cumulative 1511 update wouldn't install whilst triple-boot was active; had to set for Win10 only.

So your C: drive is partitioned to 49.5 GB but there is another 40GB in another partition that Windows 10 sees as unavailable (or "used").  If you triple-boot perhaps you have other partitions that Windows cannot read?

It looks like you are correct. The disk has 50GB Win7 (W: ), extended with 10GB data (D: ), 30GB EXT4 opensuse, 10GB EXT4 /home logicals and then a 49.5GB primary win10 at the end. It appears, as you implied, that Win 10 is adding the two EXT4 partitions to the C: stats; they are shown as 100% used in "Disk Management", where they are also shown as "primary" partitions within an extended partition

Why? - well it is MS Windows, I suppose
