which antivirus?

Hi
I am interested in finding out others opinions on which antivirus is the best...
Personally i recently moved to AVG from Zonealarm Security as i just kept finding ZA was slowing my pc down way too much..
I am currently using AVG and the inbuilt XP firewall.
I appreciate your views  Grin
thanks

Re: which antivirus?

Start by not using Internet Explorer.
Try to use a router, not a modem.
Change your preferences to show extensions of all files (so that you can see if you are opening an executable file).
Don't trust any software firewall.
When I used Windows, I found AntiVir to be reliable and didn't place too much load on an old PC. Try to avoid Windows Vista (it's not ready yet).

Re: which antivirus?

I used stand-alone e-Trust AV for some time and was happy with it. Then it became part of the Computer Associates ISS which I wasn't keen on, although it was easy to use and configure.  Following a change to Vista, although I had a subscription I deleted the Vista-compatible CA ISS due to problems and used AVG/WF.  I tried ZA when it became Vista compatible and it slowed down the computer (as had CA) so now I use AVG/Windows firewall/router firewall/Windows Defender and the laptop is working fine.  From what I read, ISSs are notorious for slowing things down and I prefer stand-alone products.

Re: which antivirus?

AVG free A/V
ZoneAlarm pro firewall (the free one is also very good)
Don't use the windows firewall!
and many other malware/spyware scanners.

Re: which antivirus?

I use AVG.  Have done for years and never had a serious issue.  When I mistakenly used BT Broadband, I was given a free copy of Norton Anti Virus, which lasted a few days, and soundly replaced by AVG again.

Re: which antivirus?

I use panda and have done for years, dell wanted remote access to my laptop but it refused to let them in.  Panda updates hourly too and not like most once a day and they let you have new versions when the come out if you are still under contract.  They have support on the end off a phone 24x7 not like some which use e-mail support.  They give a 3 computer license pack as standard.
The bad points dont buy direct they sting you on price get it from amazon
