I can't remember ever setting a name/pass to access plusnets news server and the help page suggests none is needed.
This evening after dropping and reconnecting my PPP for game lag reasons (so got new ip address) I now get asked for a name/pass to access usenet.
As this literally started after the reconnect I wonder if the new ip is somehow involved/not recognised by giganews, tcpdump sees -
