These files can directly from a relatively old mobile, that as far as I know, never went near the internet. I will scan them however.......

just try renaming one first, it looks like they are all 160 x 120 pixles

These are probably thumbnail versions of the images in the phone but rather than having the size in the filename part it has been added to the extension (.jpg) part.
First if these are on a CD they need to be copied to a hard disk before you can rename them. Then change a single file from say fred.jpg_160x120 to fred_160x120.jpg and see if you can view the image (try double clicking it).
You don't need any special software, just rename the file to an extension that windows recognises (.jpg).
