speedtest.net geo-location

As far as I'm aware speedtest.net tries to pick a fairly local test server based on ping? When I was with BT whenever I ran a test it always picked either Manchester, Preston, Liverpool etc (I live in Manchester) but now I'm with PN it generally picks a London based server. Even the triangle icon that I assumed was positioned roughly where I live is sitting over London whereas when I was with BT is sat firmly over Manchester and never moved.
Can someone in the know explain this to me?
It doesn't cause a problem I'm just curious...

Re: speedtest.net geo-location

Your connection from Plusnet exits onto the internet in London, so London servers are closer to you from the Plusnet point of view.
