Anyone tried speedtest-cli (uses speedtest.net servers)? I often get a negative spike with Samknows around 21:00 (+/- 1hr) - see image, where the drop is 70% to 22Mbps
The drop is variable, from 3% to 50% usually, though the BTW test hasn't shown a significant drop on the odd occasion I remember to run it at a suitable time, so I want to see if it is the route SK uses that's the problem (unless SK uses the same servers, of course ).
I've tested speedtest-cli with Mint17 and it seems to be giving results close to the BT values, so I've set cron to run it 5 minutes before/after 8, 9, and 10PM and log the results.

You got anything that switches on/off at 9?
Not tried the cli version will have a look at it.

Have a look at this page.
The only fixed timing internally is heating/hot water; nowhere near the 20-22:00 slot, everything else is "random". The graph below covers January and the only spike not in the slot is 16:00 18th January (third from right), plus there are 7 "slots" where the variation is below 2Mbps; with 2 each on Wed, Thurs and Sat.
There's no "heavy" industry nearby, but the local A&E hospital is 100m away (direct line), with a common 4.1km (of my 4.5km) to the exchange, assuming BT, and then onward. There is a possibility of power problems, of course, but the timing seems a bit strange and the transformer for the houses is just across the road. The hospital was built 8 years after the houses.
To (possibly) get a better picture as SK data is too coarse, I'm going to change the cron timings for tonight and tomorrow to run at 10min intervals from 19:05 to 22:55.

Interesting, are you piping out the test to a log file?

Not unusual (for me) - but important to see the vertical scale.

Yes, append date/time to the file and pipe via "grep Mbits >>"
Again, must do better - made my usual mistake of testing directly and forgetting the full path for the commands under cron, even though I tell myself to not forget next time so no data this PM

Not much variation for the last two nights, but the detail for yesterday (21st) is below. Samknows in blue, speedtest-cli in red. Spacing is a bit wayward due to plotting two series

Not that I know I was playing a couple of "freesat" recordings at that time, not streaming.
I had done some updates in the afternoon and there's automated mail fetch on the hour/half-hour (but no e-mails!) All other automated tasks don't fit in the time period.
There's a possibility the freesat unit was doing something in the background (it does seem to fetch things at times), perhaps I should try disconnecting it when it's not needed (though that seems to stop the "teletext" service).
The system I'm currently using was off, so no other internet activity.
