Last time round on CentOS, I set up Subversion, set up Apache, configured the Apache .conf file, and whenever I tried browsing to it and entering login credentials for "userone", I got a 403 forbidden, despite giving "userone" rw permissions.
I'm probably screwing up the config file somewhere, but I'll see if I have any better luck with Ubuntu
Slightly unrelated though - I've been using the Terminal that it came with and apparently vim is a good cli 'thing'. Once I've installed it, how do I actually use it?

I use joe (uses wordstar keys, although you are probable to young to remember them ;))
If you install joe (sudo apt-get install joe) pressing Ctrl-K-H will bring up a help screen (shown at the top of the screen)
Ctrl-K are the most used commands, -s to save, -x to quit and save, -q to quit without saving

Or ofc EMACS..
B.
p.s. Back in my day, when I were a lad, we had to compile the processor before we could boot the machine to compile to OS to boot the OS to compile the app stack to run the app stack.... think yourself lucky with all this apt-get rubbish!

I've set up my svn.authz file & dav_svn.conf files (I think correctly)
And whenever I try to browse to http://hostname.svn it asks me for a username and password, so i enter the user who I've given rw permissions to and the password and then I get a 403 Forbidden page.
Any ideas?

Turns out it was all down to a missing square bracket.

Re: Apache - It's good and fairly stable but very old and big. I've been using lighttpd for a bit at home and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. Not tried any DAV but there's a module for it IIRC.
