Re: raspberry pi zero

well one of the primary reasons for using this was, i assumed, that it could block youtube ads at a local network level without the need of adblock extension.
however, pi-hole can't seem to do that very well (if at all).

strange how ublock origin (and adblock plus) can do it 100% of the time, yet pi-hole can't.

Re: raspberry pi zero

it's the "Also there's is no guarantee that this list will block 100% of the ads" that i don't get.
how can ublock origin manage it 100% of the time, yet something like pi-hole can't.

also, that link to github doesn't seem to apply to pi-hole.
it's a brower script ?

Re: raspberry pi zero

Maybe have a day off from the sociopathy and be grateful that Pi-hole is free and open source and a lot of work goes into maintaining it.

If you're not happy with the blacklists they provide, seek others or compile and maintain your own...

Re: raspberry pi zero

feel free to step away from this thread if you feel that my "gratefulness" is not your required level.
my initial comment stands... pi-hole says it's a "whack-a-mole process", yet the two adblock extensions i mentioned have a 100% sucess rate at blocking ads.

one seems to manage it fine, one doesn't.
it's a valid question to ask.

Re: raspberry pi zero

it's kinda the main reason why i was wanting to use it.
might end up just de-commisioning it as it was primarily for the devices where you can't install ublock origin (or similar) and where having to see a pre-play ad on youtuve was the main gripe.

Re: raspberry pi zero

Yet without advertising you wouldn't know about the raspberry pi.

Re: raspberry pi zero

rubbish.
I read all about the raspberry pi via articles published in technology websites and magazines.
and i've been using raspberry pis for various things since the original pi 1.

yet another non-sensical post from the resident walloper.

Re: raspberry pi zero

You could imitate pi-hole by simply putting a few thousand entries in your hosts file.

Keeping it up to date would be rather tedious, though.

Re: raspberry pi zero

indeed it would.
it also appears that keeping the pi-hole up to date with new youtube ad servers would be an equally tedious job.

compare that to unlock origin that, for me, has 100% success rate for blocking youtube ads with zero input from me.

Re: raspberry pi zero

Those articles are themselves are a form of indirect advertising chenks. Some articles are even created deliberately as adverts.

Then there is the original RPi that you mention.. presumably you heard about that via the media too Thumbs_Up

I wasn't having a dig at you with my previous reply BTW, I was just pointing out a simple fact - that without some form of advertising, you'd never have known about your RPi.

Re: raspberry pi zero

It wasn't insulting it was 100% accurate.
All three words used were an accurate description of the human in question.

And remember, just because you are offended doesn't make you right.
