i recently got an offer for serif webplus10 to download for a tenner. looks ok but then i read that it may not upload to free webspace on an isp.
review here:http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/94179/serif-webplus-10.html
anyone use this? have problems? any other suggestions. prefer free or very cheap and novice friendly
thanks

I don't know about any particular problem with Serif uploading, but you can always save the html files to your hard drive and upload them using something like <a href="http://download.cnet.com/FileZilla/3000-2160_4-10308966.html">FileZilla</a> instead. The Serif software is quite easy to use.
You could also consider <a href="http://kompozer.net/">Kompozer</a>, which is free, or <a href="http://www.xara.com/uk/">Xara webstyle</a>, which a colleague of mine swears by. It costs slightly more at £39 but is very easy to use.

The problem wasnt uploading as such but the directory structure from what I can gather as their structure includes _ which isnt allowed on some servers.
It all depend what you want to do with a website if its just a person Home page for family then any cheap software will do. If you want something better or professional then you need better software.
Its often worth trying Dreamweaver or MS Impresion web for the 30 day trail

I personally wouldn't recommend Kompozer if you're going to be doing any php as one thing I did find was that it would only allow php code inside of the html tags - not outside of it. This basically meant you couldn't use it to write a php script and include the template in it - you had to write a html page and include the php in it instead.
It's also a bit pants for that reason if you want to work with sessions as you can't use <? ob_session_start(); ?> before the <html> element.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Fair enough, but as the OP says he is a novice I doubt he is going to be doing much PHP coding, at least for now!
