pentuim d 945 3.4 or update to Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 1066FSB LGA775 4MB

i have at this moment in time have a pentuim d 945 3.4 and it seems to struggle some times :'(.does anyone think replacing it with intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 1066FSB LGA775 4MB(best my motherboard will take)would make it perform better Roll_eyes Roll_eyes Roll_eyes Roll_eyes Roll_eyes

Definitely if you can as the core 2's are much quicker than the pentium D's (I'm running the same chip as you) but we have a couple of core 2 systems at work and am really considering upgrading as XP goes like a bullet on them, clock speeds are lower but you will notice the difference.

If I'm honest I reckon downgrading might do the job to be honest. I've got a few machines and the most powerful is the one still using ancient SDRam! All my DDR machines struggle from time to time. No idea why the latest fastest tech seems to be the most useless but its very annoying.
Of course 2 cores working in parallel... thats also way better than a single core chip.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Any bit of hardware no matter how powerful will be taxed at times if the load is heavy but I've definitely found that the OS is more responsive

excellent,a new e6600 cpu is now in my machine and i must say it is miles faster than the pentuim d.thanks for your advice folks

If I get my Cisco next year I shall upgrade my CPU to celebrate  Smiley
