Re: pc wont boot up please help

Exactly how far does it get when you get the option for different modes - is this the windows option safe mode etc. or a bios option.
As you have an operating computer can you create a BartPE boot disk  http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and see if that works on the other machine.
I assume that the bios boot order is CD first then hard drive

Re: pc wont boot up please help

With that program by following the instructions at the bottom of the link you can burn a bootable CD
However I suspect that something rather odd is happening as you can't boot from the windows CD
While we wait for someone with a better idea can you try something rather silly.
Disconnect the computer from the mains for a few minutes then reconnect it and try again.

Re: pc wont boot up please help

Many PCs don't come with a Windows install CD but a manufacturers recovery CD.
What does it say on the CD you are trying to boot from?
Also what make/model PC are you using?

Re: pc wont boot up please help

Then please be aware that some recovery CDs will restore the system back to the factory default windows installation causing all your user data to be lost!
However, the CD should be bootable so there must be something seriously wrong with the PC, and given your technical knowledge, you may actually do more harm and potentially lose all your data if you continue.
Do you have a friend or other family member who may know more about PCs who could look at it. Failing that you may have to take it to a local PC repair shop, although they are unlikely to guarantee to retain any of your data.

Re: pc wont boot up please help

One way to find out is, boot to safe mode with command prompt.
It will give you a list of files it is loading, you could simply just wait until it reboots and give us the name of he file it is rebooting on.
I bet it's probably agpCPQ.sys......bloody nightmare that file.... Sad

Re: pc wont boot up please help

You shouldn't need to do that.
I run my WinXP for like 2 years between formats, and even then, I only reinstall because drivespace seems to disappear into an abyss.....
