Re: outlook express failure

Outlook Express isn't part of MS Office it comes free with the OS.
Office ships with Outlook.
Whenever this has happened to me with Outlook it's been either because there is insufficient disc space or a dat file has become corrupt.
There's a trouble-shooter here which may help.

It wouldn't behave like that if it was.  Wink
I guess we need to know first if it's Outlook or Outlook Express that has the problem.
(Outlook does has a very handy "safe mode")

The link I gave does give a rather long-winded way of starting Outlook in Safe Mode. For the 2007 edition simply hold CTRL as you start it. Not sure if it's the same for previous versions.

Re: outlook express failure

Thanks for the comments.  Its Outlook that's the problem - sorry!  I've tried opening in safe mode as suggested -- using CTRL.  Didn't affect it.

Re: outlook express failure

Do other components of Office work OK, e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint?
What version (e.g. 2003, 2007) of Office Professional is it?

Re: outlook express failure

Try moving the dat and pst files to a new folder, restart Outlook and let it rebuild the dat file then move the pst file back to its original folder. I'm sure that's how I solved a problem some time ago.
If you go to File - Data File Management and the select the Data File tab you can open the relevant folder. Then close Outlook.
