whenever I use "my computer" or "windows explorer"..... I cannot see the file suffix on the list of files in any folders.... particularly music files....
I have the headlines "Name" > "Type"> "Size" at the column heads, but no info other than the name of the file is shown....is there some "secret" to restore this facility, apart from using the right click and properties on each particular file.?? ?

Look to see if the Hide extensions for Known File Types box is ticked.
If it is then untick it.

Click on Tools then Folder Options and then View
Untick Hide Extensions for known file types
Edit - slightly different to Strat's method

Quote from: ReedRichards I have never been able to see what good this does.
I suspect it was intended to stop unseasoned users from renaming files and subsequently 'breaking' them by removing the file extension.

They still think this is a massively clever idea, but don't realise that the dot and the extension are just part of the filename...

(Should you be displaying hidden files and directories?).
