laptop connects on a whim

Hi Can you let me have some advice please?
I have an existing Belkin wireless router and one pc is wired into it with another connecting successfully via a usb dongle. I recently replaced my laptop as the last one died. Its a gateway with inbuilt wireless. I've had it about 3-4 weeks now.
When you switch on it finds the wireless on about 50% of starts and if you reboot it ususally finds it at the second attempt. The last few days though it has stopped finding the network at all. Then maybe next time it finds it 1st time etc. you just never know.  I had my old belkin pcmcia card so I stuck that in the side and it seems to work perfectly.
I tried to configure the on board wireless but vista just hangs.
Is this a hardware fault and should i take it back to the shop?

Do you have any wireless software with the laptop?  It might be worth trying to uninstall and then reinstall this software, in case the software itself has become corrupted.  Definitely worth a go.
