installing linux on second HDD

I was looking at installing Linux on a computer running windows but was thinking of formatting the second internal HDD and installing Linux on that.
Is there any specific problem to this or is it just straight forward. ?
Clearly I would still want access to the grub menu allowing me to boot into the OS of choice.

Re: installing linux on second HDD

It's fairly straight forward. If you install grub to the MBR of the second HDD, then you would need to configure the BIOS to boot from that HDD. grub would have an entry to boot Windows from the first hard disk. You would also be able to use the bios boot menu to start Windows from the first hard disk.

Hi,
Thanks for that, as you say that would be the easiest solution.
Don't know why I didn't think of it.

Re: installing linux on second HDD

I have an external usb HDD which I use to try out different distros.
Win7 and my main linux distro are on the internal HDD.
As long as I always install Grub  (be it from the internal or usb drive) to the MBR on the main drive there is never a problem. The boot menu will show all Os's on both drives.
