iOS 9

Hey,
Just had an emai from pn re. tonights iOS 9 update potentially causing problems with the support line in terms of answering calls.
Anyone having problems trying to d/l the update over the air will be pleased to know that doing it via iTunes installs it perfectly.
Good luck!
Rick.

Due to the connection problems experienced by some customers earlier today and the upcoming Apple software updates this evening we'd like to make customers aware that it might take longer than normal to contact our support centre this evening.

Re: iOS 9

Hmmm, OK, someone explain something. Over the last few years, there have been multiple Apple iOS releases, and only a couple of months ago there was a massive Windows 10 rollout, which was a good couple of Gb.
So why is THIS particular download causing problems? The strange thing is, although page loading time IS quite slow for me with no other downloads happening, my speedtest.net results are normal at 4.5Mb.
?!?

Re: iOS 9

because the win10 started downloading to pc's before the official release whereas the apple releases are big bang and millions of people try and jump on it at once.

Re: iOS 9

Worked fine for me, can't understand why there would be any issues - Microsoft issue far more updates - normally on a Tuesday, do we hear of issues from them?

Re: iOS 9

because you don't have millions of sheep pressing the 'check for updates' button on patch tuesday, that's staggered as people switch on Wink

Re: iOS 9

It's exactly as Dvorak says, the big bang approach Apple take gives a very sudden massive spike in traffic globally.
This time the download is smaller than previous ios releases, unfortunately Apple have had issues with OTA updates erroring so I'm sure some people will have called in about that when its down to Apple and not us in those cases.

Re: iOS 9

I always do my updates as a download in iTunes first and then update the device from there!
Just done my iPhone in the normal time it takes and doing my iPad now!  Grin
