go4adsl.net

One of my friends now uses the above as ISP. I have never heard of it before and as he is even more limited than I in hos knowedge I would like to know if it is "safe". Can anyone tell anything about it; a web search reveals almost nothing.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: go4adsl.net

I can't find anything about them
Do you have a web address?  I'd automatically be concerned that I can't initially find out any information about them.

Re: go4adsl.net

I wouldn't go to an ISP that I can't find any information about on the web.

Re: go4adsl.net

That's not exactly weird. AOL, NTL and quite a number of other providers are famed for routing data via the US pointlessly.

Re: go4adsl.net

That tracert originates in the US - check out the timings from the first hops.  There is no way it peers transatlantically at ~1ms
Tracing route to 217.163.44.170 over a maximum of 30 hops
  1    36 ms    99 ms  100 ms  dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]
  2    21 ms    20 ms    20 ms  lo0-plusnet.pcl-ag02.plus.net [195.166.128.39]
  3    20 ms    19 ms    20 ms  gi1-2-904.pcl-gw02.plus.net [84.92.0.141]
  4    19 ms    21 ms    21 ms  te2-1.pcl-gw01.plus.net [212.159.1.113]
  5    19 ms    20 ms    21 ms  xe-1-2-0-0.lon20.ip.tiscali.net [213.200.79.233]
  6    25 ms    23 ms    20 ms  ge-7-1.core2.London1.Level3.net [213.200.77.130]
  7    20 ms    20 ms    21 ms  ae-15-53.car5.London1.Level3.net [4.68.116.83]
  8    26 ms    25 ms    19 ms  217.163.44.170

Saying that, I've never heard of them at all.

Re: go4adsl.net

I'd echo others thoughts on the subject.
Any reason why they want this specific ISP rather than Plusnet?

Re: go4adsl.net

Not easy to describe, but suffice it to say, it has to do with their beliefs, an ISP that resonated with them ceasing, and them wanting a domain for continuity if they had to change ISP again. From what they told me I am not so un-confident about the new ISP as before. Let's hope that continues.
