e mail new mail box

hi, a few weeks ago I added a new mailbox solely to receive replies from job applications - now here's the great thing, I am unable to get in to the new mail box to see if I have any replies!! I have tried typing in just the name and new password: nothing.  I have tried name+(default e mail username): nothing. I know the password is correct, do they expire if the account is not accessed for a while? Or does anyone know the correct thing to type in the username box?  Now due to my great age I don't suppose I have any replies but I would like to check, thanks for any help that can be given.

To access your new mailbox, type "username+mailboxname" eg "johnsmith+boxname".  Of course, omitting quotation marks.
The "plus" is typed in between the other names, no spaces.

The username should be:
username+mailboxname
From you post, I believe you're trying:
mailboxname+username

doh! a million thanks to you both, absolutely right I had the names the wrong way round.  It's great to have a forum like this to come to for advice.  Wishing you all a happy new year.
