e-mail from vista

When I click on an e-mail link on a web page I get message saying 'default mail client not properly configured'
I'm using windows mail and internet explorer.
e-mail sent in usual way using windows mail works fine.

In IE what does Tools, Internet Options, Programs say?

Says IE is default browser
Manage add ons says 'manage addons'
HTML editing is blank
Internet programs says 'set programs'
I've tried settings windows mail as default but to no avail

Er yes it will, you click on it to set programs, e.g. email.....

Er, well I have done, several times, and selected windows mail from list on left of resulting window but it doesn't help

Have you checked all the detailed associations (three I think) and also tried setting it to something else as a test?
