Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

For servers I would always manually set a static address. More predictable behaviour and less (nothing really) to go wrong.

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

Yes @marc2, set a static IP on your Plex server (i.e. the Windows 10 PC it runs on) and set the same IP on the router. Remember to apply the rules regarding the choice of IP address you use to make your life easier. i.e. One outside of the DHCP range of the router. I think that 192.168.1.3 is outside of that range but someone, or yourself, might need to confirm that.

I've included a link below on how to set the static IP for those that might find it useful in the future.

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/

This link also covers Windows Vista, XP and 7 to 10.

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

You could either set the DNS to the IP address of the router (192.168.1.254) or the addresses of Plusnet's or some other party's (e.g. Google on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

You don't need to change the DNS at all.

Edit:- I assume you're referring to the static network connection setting then see @MJN's post above.

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

If manually configuring a device it is wise to configure everything.

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

You don't need to set anything in the router as regards the staticness of an IP, just enter the same IP e.g. 192.168.1.3 into the applicable field when forwarding the port.

We seem to have multiple conversations getting intermixed! I'll bow out to reduce confusion.

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

@Anonymous It's making my head spin, particularly being on a mobile!

@marc2 The TG582 doesn't let you port forward to an IP address reference but rather the 'Device' dropdown will list all the devices it has seen by machine name or pseudo-MAC name. Find your server by either of these (running ipconfig /all at the command line will reveal its MAC address).

Re: constant change of local IP.. stop!?

I'm not sure what else to suggest to be honest as I've had 20+ port forwards running for years without issue and so I'm not all that clued up on what might need fixing.
