c:windows/host- AVG doesn't like it-why?

Hi,
AVG virus scanner keeps saying there is an 'error' with c:windows/hosts file. Doesn't say there is any virus just error.
Can anyone elaborate?
Thanks in advance,
evie

The hosts file is usually found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and will not have an extension but can be opened with notepad.
Open it up copy and paste the contents here are we can see if anything is amiss.

Re: c:windows/host- AVG doesn't like it-why?

In the host file is a list of IP's for some websites(it may be blank by default). Your pc looks here before it asks the DNS for an address. As such its often used by hackers because if they put down their IP as your banks ip when you log onto the bank you will in fact go to the hackers website.
It can be used to block sites so i fyou had kids who you didnt want to visit sexmad.com if you put the ip for sexmad as your local ip it would never find the proper site.
AVG has probably found some entries in the file and querying them
