backing up to a usb drive on the router using synctoy

I did the basics and setup the drive from the router interface and setup a mapped drive on the XP computer then ran synctoy

All the folders were created but no files were transferred I tried setting the security permissions but it still wouldn't work

Obviously I am missing something but I have no idea what

The router is a Billion 8800nl

Just to get things going I am trying the same thing  with the hard drive connected directly to the computer and that is working as it should

Daft question... are you using different file formats on the two drives such as NTFS v FAT32 ?

Alternatively does the drive have write protection? - EG is it a memory card in a usb dongle for instance? (some 3/4g dongles have microsd slots)

is the drive mounted under disk manager or did you just add a network drive ?

what file format is the drive in?

how large are the files your trying to do a sync with? theres posts on the billion forum that suggest anything over 9gb isn't going to work due to buffer handling /

might be that you need to do the sync plugged into the pc to start off with and then it will work to change things incrementally afterwards via the hub

files are all small

format is ntfs

actually I don't think it is going to work the way I want as apparently you need to login to the drive every time

I will leave it as it is for a long time as I am going in for a new hip next week and subsequent mobility is going to be a major problem for several months
