Zone alarm

I have just noticed that ZA is using a lot of system resources.  I use avast free.  Would it be safe to remove ZA and rely on windows  XP firewall?  Thanks

Re: Zone alarm

There are other lighter firewall's available, but the XP one is OK, but doesn't really monitor outbound connection just blocks incoming.

Re: Zone alarm

Yes it would be entirely safe.
ZoneAlarm gives you the ability to control outbound outbound traffic and this might serve to alert you to suspicious activity when your computer catches a virus but so long as your security software (i.e. Avast free) is doing its job then that isn't going to happen.  And unless ZoneAlarm has grown more pro-active in the seven years since I stopped using it, it doesn't give you any help in identifying whether an outbound process is likely to be legitimate or not, so the outbound control only benefits the expert user.
