If it boots as far as the bios then you can make sure it's set to boot from CD, if it doesn't even let you get the bios up (usually by pressing delete or f2 during the boot screen) then you'll need to get it looked at.

Re: XP reboot - no CD recognised

Can get into the bios without problem and set to boot from CD it just doesn't recognise the disc in the drive. Could extract HD and attach as a slave drive to the main PC and then try to load XP up again?
It's an IBM thinkpad pentium 4.

Re: XP reboot - no CD recognised

Unfortunately that covers quite a few models - can you be a little more  specific with the model please?
The drive in the laptop is likely to have a different connector than the one in the PC, so that's not really an option. In any case, the install you'd do on the PC may well give difficulties when you try to boot the laptop with it.
When you boot up, can you hear the CD drive spinning up? (I.e. does it try to boot and fail, or just not try at all?) It's a bit obvious, but I have to ask - have you tried booting your PC with the XP disc, just to make sure it is okay? Did you get recovery discs with the laptop?
