I used the File > Import> Messages (on the windows mail ) and followed the instructions, and the emails have successfully been transferred.....
(I did need to know the location that Pierre gave, to be able to direct the "import" tool to work properly.)
Thank you all for your help. As usual, Much Appreciated..

I only put in the bit about finding the folder with the dbx files as "extra information",.......
My basic question was about the "location" of the emails,.........

but I cannot find a location where the actual emails are stored on the XP hard drive, .... can anyone enlighten me please?

If 99% of people use OE then he had a 99% chance of being right.
Better odds you couldn't get at any bookies
Glad you got sorted though Shutter When are you going to break the news about the new laptop to SWMBO

In my (wide) experience it's only about 10% to 15% which is why I asked.
(the answers are very different for other email clients)
