XP SP3 Pro and DVD/RW Drive

Hi folks,
I hope this is appropriate and not under Hardware, move it if necceswsary.
My old Dell OptiPlex GX110 has now had a new DVD/RW drive fitted. It is recognised in terms of its ID but seems to retain the driver as CD!  I have looked at the matter with M$ sources and all I can find is that XP Pro SP3 should have the driver to allow for DVD useage in it already. So far I have not found it. Any clues out there? I particulaly want to use t for backup purposes

Whats the problem? Does it read a DVD with data on it? If so then it is working. To play a DVD you need a program like power DVD to install the codecs etc.

And what does the BIOS recognise it as?
