XP,Firefox and Yahoo webmail

Very strange problem which is making me pull my hair out!!
Set my wife up with a webmail account some weeks ago.She was using it without issues via Firefox. Then earlier in the week when she clicks on sign in button, Firefox hangs for ever!! altho' it hasn't crashed
I've tried deleting and reloading Firefox,switching off the firewall,changing AV product (MS Security Essentials to Avast free) = nothing works!!
I can still access her web mail thru other PCs on the network so its not router related.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Just tried with OE8 -no joy.
Also ran a full scan with Malwarebytes Malware scanner - nothing found.
Also done a system restore back a week - no joy.

How about setting up another email account and see if you can access this?
I use BT Yahoo webmail with no problems using FF or IE.

Its not specific to the email account - I can't even get to the sign on page!
I'm beginning to think thats its to do with XP - God knows what - but the fact that I can sign on using two Vista machines suggests that its nothing to do with Yahoo either.

I use my webmail on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines, IE 6 & 8 and FF so I don't think it is an XP problem.
If you can't even get to the sign on page it sounds this has been blocked by a security setting or AV.

What is the URL you are having trouble with?
You could also try running Ccleaner...

The page that won't complete loading is                                      https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=my&.intl=uk&.done=http://uk.my.yahoo.com/ ;                   It just hangs.
I've now done a restore to an even earlier date ....but that seems to be leading me deeper into the s**t!

do you get as far as it asking for your username and password?

Sorry but it opens fine for me (no help I guess!).
Try clearing history and other data in FF.  Tools/Clear recent History.
I would also recommend running ccleaner. Also what about the old IT Support favourite...turn your machine off and on again?
Another idea - try using www.yahoo.com.  Then choose Mail on the left and it should redirect to your usual mail page.

Pure genius Nick!!!!
Tried all your suggestions in order ...but none worked ...even reinstalled Firefox again BUT the dodge of opening www.yahoo.com (and declining the UK page) followed by mail actually finally got me to a log in page!!!
God knows why this worked when everything else failed....but thanks
