Wireless extenders , no web access

Have two wireless extenders due to poor wireless performance , worked fine with sky but now although connected( via wps) both report no web access?

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

A WiFi range extender rebroadcasts wireless internet signals from the base router to areas of the home where reception dips significantly below baseline.

So are these devices back-to-back or quite separate?

You are only (at best) going to get half speed.

What's wrong with a few dozen metres of ethernet cable, anyway?

Ethernet cable does not help my wifi?

Not sure what you mean by back to back?

Speed seems to be on a par with wifi from router.

An ethernet cable would give you full internet speed.

Are you saying that you have wifi access, but no web access?

Do you have an extender, extended by a second extender - or not?

Yes wifi connected to extenders , but no web access, extenders are independent , one is also connected to ethernet.

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

Do you have any web access at all?

Even standing next to your router?

Web access is fine thru router, just not thru extenders.

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

Have you checked the configuration of the router and these extenders?

Don't rely on WPS to fix everything - its only intended for connecting a single device to the router.

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

I had a similar problem, two devices were connecting to the same wifi extender. The first connected OK and rebroadcast the SSID, the second device connected to the 1st device, not the wifi extender, it appeared as "connected" but would not connect to the internet.

Solution was to turn off all devices and connect the second device first.

Hope this makes sense

Not the problem I am having, none of my devices is capable of rebroadcasting ssid. Nothing is connecting successfully.

Is there any chance you could please tell us a bit more about what type of extender(s) you are using - make, model etc. Are these wifi over mains devices or wireless access point using ethernet back to router?

I wonder if they were hard coded with IP on the Sky setup and are simply missing the correct router/gateway from the config.

If you log in to your router you should see the extenders as devices - do the ip addresses match the range of addresses provided by the router?

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

One is D-link , wireless , picks up signal and rebroadcasts it.The other is cheap Chinese unit simply label wireless N , it is both wireless and has lan/wan ports .

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

The D-Link sounds like a proper extender, but the Chinese unit sounds like something trying to be a router acting as an access point - I would unplug this unit and see if you can get the D-Link configured to work. The configuration will depend on the configuration of your main router.

Re: Wireless extenders , no web access

Well, the D Link web site provides very comprehensive instructions on configuring these units - obviously depends on which model.

Assuming you have verified that you are using DHCP client setup for your PC (just to eliminate any gateway/dns issues), and again assuming it works fine with just your router as the AP, then my instinct would be to reset to factory default using the relevant instructions - for example http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/faq/access-points-and-range-extenders/range-extenders/dap-series/...

I agree with @VileReynard remove the Chinese unit and get the D-Link working as a starting point.
