I've just got hold of Winpatrol and it seems a quite helpful program. Has anyone got experience of this and whether it would be worth going for the Plus version ?

Quote This security software is certainly not for the novice computer user. It's different from other software that typically scans for threats, and that's where it can get confusing. If you know an above-average amount of information about computers, you'll probably find certain tabs -- like Startup Programs and Delayed Start -- useful, but it's going to take a period of learning to really know what to do with ones like Cookies, File Types, and Hidden Files.

I would only use this

and this
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896653
and would not suggest anything from download.com ,,,, to much extra included bloatware and spyware

Thanks for replies. I have played with Winpatrol and found the delayed start facility rather handy but not yet explored much further. I have got autoruns in my armoury but it is somewhat over the top for me.
I think I might stick with Winpatrol as the Info tab at least could well be useful.

I just tried winpatrol
it auto installs Flexnet update which stays when you remove winpatrol , also it adds a extra autorun update.exe
I suppose its not to bad for a novice , but it only shows what runs with IE, and no other browser .
its up to the individual to what they use ,

This says it all & also, tells me not to download it
[quote= http://www.winpatrol.com/]BREAKING NEWS
I'm very happy to announce WinPatrol's future will be in the hands of Ruiware founder and former lead at Sunbelt Software,
If you really want / need Winpatrol, I suggest finding the latest versions before the take over, from a reputable source
@wrongtw
They have a removal program
[quote= http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html] WinPatrol Removal Program (589 KB)
This is a single program WinPatrolRemove.exe which will remove all files and registry entries created by installing WinPatrol. After running this file it will be removed automatically the next time you reboot.
Thank you to Scotty's International volunteers and friends

WinPatrol customers will continue to receive all the same benefits. You still won't find obnoxious toolbars when you download WinPatrol. As always WinPatrol will help you remove them.
Thanks,
Bret Lowry
