Wine

Wondered if someone could just give me a quick bit of advice about programmes that will work under Wine and how to get them to do it?
I have Spotify working OK but don't know how to organize anything else or indeed what to try.

Re: Wine

Basically just run the installer and it (might) work.
There is a list of programs <a href="http://appdb.winehq.org/">here</a> that give an idea about what runs and what has issues.
A lot of programs "just work", but a few require a few tweaks. (I run Newsbin with no issues and ImgBurn that requires a small tweak in the program to access the burner)

Re: Wine

I've got RouterStats - the lite version; it draws graphs of my sync speed and noise margin.
Also got an Open University email thing which works.
I suggest you check your Spotify settings - I think the default is to use 10% (?) of your disk as cache.
It's possible to reduce this to a minimum of 1GB Cheesy

Re: Wine

Lots of games on that link. I was thinking about stuff like Microsoft Office although only Publisher as I can manage with Open Office for other things.
Draw and Scribus (for me) don't come near to what I can do with Publisher, which I use all the time for card making.
Think I'll forget about it as I will always have a Windows machine to do the things that are important to me.
Thanks for comments.

Re: Wine

If you had gone to the db and selected productivity (<a href="http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?bIsQueue=false&bIsRejected=false&sClass=application&sTitle=Browse+Applications&iItemsPerPage=25&iPage=1&sOrderBy=appName&bAscending=true">here</a>) you would have seen the office types.
Publisher is <a href="http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=663">here</a> but unless you have the '03 version it is rated as garbage Shocked
An alternative (non free) is Crossover office which is based on wine but more tailererd for office programs.
